18/07/09 - 02/08/09Once again Rome welcomes the representatives of FINA, 15 years after the organisation of the seventh edition of these championships back in 1994.The Championships represent an opportunity to strengthen Rome's sporting infrastructures for water sports. Facilities for FINA 2009 World Championships include the Foro Italico Complex, due shortly to undergo renovation and to be equipped with the most advanced technology; the International Water Sports Centre, to be built in the futuristic Sport City in Tor Vergata and designed by the Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava; and the Rome - Ostia Lido (for free water swimming competitions).
The Committee for the 13th FINA World Championships will promote a programme of sports and events linked to art and entertainment based on the theme of water and aquatic sports. The programme will be called the Aquatic Festival and will start a week before the official opening ceremony and continue right through until the end of the competition.
